Why this layout

This layout has 58 seats plus 2 optional chairs at the sweetheart table (60 total). Sixty guests is the size where a long head table starts to feel like a stage, so it uses a sweetheart table instead. The couple sit at the top of the plan just below the dance floor, and the seven rounds of eight sit below them in a row of four and a row of three, which keeps every guest within a table or two of the couple. Parents take the rounds nearest the sweetheart table, and the dance floor sits next to the couple instead of cutting through the guest tables.

Room and spacing

Tables58 seats plus 2 optional chairs at the sweetheart table (60 total): 7 rounds of 8 (56 seats) plus a 4-seat sweetheart table makes 8 tables, 60 seats counting the optional chairs. The sweetheart table is the couple plus 2 optional chairs; delete those and the plan seats 58.
Round table size60-inch rounds, which seat 8 comfortably and 10 at most.
Estimated room sizeSeating only: 864–960 sq ft (14.4–16 sq ft per guest, aisles included). Seating plus dance floor: about 970–1,070 sq ft. The dance floor's 3-ft border comes on top.
Dance floorAbout 108 sq ft of dancing space (roughly an 11-ft square), plus a 3-ft clear border around it. That is 40% of guests (24 people) dancing at about 4.5 sq ft each.
Table footprint7 rounds × about 100 sq ft (a 60-inch round plus its clearance ring) is about 700 sq ft, plus the 4-seat sweetheart table. Leave 60 inches between round table edges so a server can pass behind a seated guest.
Accessible routeAt least 36 inches wide to every table (ADA 403.5.1).

Planning a 60-guest wedding layout

Sweetheart table or head table at 60 guests

A head table seats the couple plus 6–12 people on one side at about 24 inches each. For the couple plus 6 that is 16 feet of table, a big piece of a 60-guest room for 8 people. A sweetheart table seats the couple alone, takes far less floor and leaves room for another guest table.

This template draws the sweetheart table with four chairs: two for the couple and two optional ones you can give to a parent or best friend, or delete. The template's 60 seats include those two optional chairs. Parents then host their own rounds near the couple.

Leaving seats for late RSVPs

A 60-inch round seats 8 comfortably and 10 at most, so each of the seven rounds has room for a couple of extra chairs in a squeeze. Until your reply deadline passes, seat 7 guests at each round: that places 49 at the rounds and leaves seven open chairs, so a late yes joins a table without moving anyone else.

Once replies are final, fill the open chairs and print the plan.

How many tables 60 guests need

Sixty guests at rounds need eight tables of 8 (60 ÷ 8 = 7.5, rounded up) or 6 tables of 10. Tables of 10 need 72-inch rounds, because a 60-inch round seats 10 only at a squeeze. A sweetheart table takes the couple out of the count, so this layout needs one round fewer: seven 60-inch rounds of 8 are 56 seats, and the four-seat sweetheart table brings the total to 60. If you delete its two optional chairs the layout seats 58.

Family placement at 60 guests

Parents' tables near the couple

Parents host their own tables near the couple rather than sitting at the sweetheart table. In this layout that is the two rounds nearest the sweetheart table, one per family, each at the same distance from the couple. A parents' table usually also holds the officiant, grandparents and close family friends.

Divorced or separated parents

Give each parent their own table and keep both the same distance from the couple, because guests read equal distance, not order. If one parent has remarried, seat them with their spouse and give the other parent a table of their own close family or friends, so neither table looks like the consolation one. Our head table guide covers the reasoning.

The other five rounds

With two rounds for the parents, five are left. The sweetheart table frees the wedding party to sit with their partners and friends, so give them the next-nearest rounds and fill the rest by family branch and friend group.

How to use it

  1. Open the template: seven rounds (a row of four and a row of three), the sweetheart table and the dance floor are already placed.
  2. Seat the couple first, then both sets of parents at the two rounds nearest the sweetheart table, and fill the rest by family branch and friend group. Import your RSVP list from a spreadsheet to save the typing.
  3. Hold one chair open per round until your reply deadline, then export the final plan. Free exports carry a small watermark.

Frequently asked questions

How many tables do I need for 60 wedding guests?

This template seats 58 plus 2 optional chairs at the sweetheart table (60 total): seven 60-inch rounds of 8 (56 seats) plus a four-seat sweetheart table. If everyone sat at rounds you would need eight tables of 8, or six tables of 10 on 72-inch rounds (a 60-inch round seats 8 comfortably and 10 at most, so 10-seat tables need 72-inch rounds).

How big a room do I need for 60 wedding guests?

Seating only needs 864–960 sq ft (14.4–16 sq ft per guest). A dance floor for 40% of guests dancing adds about 108 sq ft, an 11-ft square, for about 970–1,070 sq ft in all. Check your venue's listed capacity as well.

Should a 60-guest wedding have a head table?

Usually a sweetheart table fits better at this size. A head table for the couple plus 6 needs about 16 feet along one side, while a sweetheart table keeps the couple central and leaves room for an extra guest round.

How many seats should I hold open for late RSVPs at 60 guests?

Seat 7 guests at each of the seven rounds until your reply deadline. That places 49 at the rounds and leaves seven open chairs, so a late yes joins a table without moving anyone else. Fill the open chairs once replies are final.

Where do parents sit at a 60-guest wedding?

At their own rounds near the couple, one per family and at the same distance from the sweetheart table. If parents are divorced, give each their own table at equal distance, and seat a remarried parent with their spouse.
